Konferenz: Religion and Russian Revolution

The conference brings together leading historians from many countries. The aim of the conference is to understand the tectonic shifts in the culture and society of the Russian Empire around the historical epicenter of the 1917. How did Revolution affected religious institutions and religious ideas? How did religious mind respond to the wave of massive and inevitable violence? How the Revolution was percieved in religious terms? How did the Revolution itself produce its own sacred meanings?

The conference is multidisciplinary. It will draw upon materials related to historiography of political and religious institutions; sociology of religious processes; study of theological, philosophical and artistic reflections of the Revolution; and anthropology of everyday practices. The conference will cover various religious traditions within the Russian imperial sphere.
