Polen: Church donates books to support resocialization of prisoners

18. April 2019

The Polish Orthodox Church has donated several spiritual books to libraries at prisons and detention centers across the country to support the process of resocialization among the prisoners, reports the official Church site. The books were donated as part of the Freedom Through Literature project, started at the initiative of Chaplain Fr. Andrzej Lewczak, to support the resocialization of prisoners through the enrichment of the institutions’ libraries with spiritual literature.

More than 600 volumes, including works by St. Paisios the Athonite and His Eminence Metropolitan Athanasius of Limassol, were sent to libraries throughout Poland over the past year, and this year more than 1'000 copies have been sent. This support is beneficial in effectively combating the social exclusion of prisoners, and, in particular, in the process of improving moral values and ethics among prisoners. The project is jointly operated by the Sts. Cyril and Methodius Cultural Center in Warsaw and the Bratczyk publishing house in Hajnówka. (Quelle: www.orthochristian.com, 17. April 2019)
