The Conference “Orthodox Christianity Between Pre-Modern Commitments, Modern Challenges, and Post-Modern Relevance” is planned to take place in Volos, in the “Thessalia” Conference Centre, between October 19 and 22, 2023. The conference is organised by the Chair of Religious Studies (Orthodox Christianity) of the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Erfurt (Germany), and the Volos Academy for Theological Studies (Greece).
It is open to the public, both in situ and online through Zoom.
The working language will be English (no translation provided).
The Conference aims to shed light on topics as the multifaceted relation of Orthodoxy with modernity, its alleged conservatism and its emphasis on the tradition as a binding, normative past, its capacity to respond to present-day challenges, but also the recent developments in the post-modern context, which have relativised earlier narratives, opening new possibilities for the importance of Orthodoxy and increasing its international attractiveness internationally.
