25. Oktober 2017
The Secretariat of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations is drafting a memorandum on the interaction with the Conference of European Churches. The representatives of Ukrainian denominations discussed this issue during a meeting on October 18, under the chairmanship of Sheikh Ahmed Tamim, Chairman of the Religious Administration of Muslims of Ukraine, the Institute of Religious Freedom report. Earlier the AUCCRO already appealed to foreign inter-church associations to call for the release of hostages illegally detained by the so-called “Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics” in the East of Ukraine. Ukrainian religious leaders have decided to send new appeals on this problem to more international institutions in the near future.

The members of the Secretariat of the AUCCRO also discussed the status of bills No. 6696 and No. 6642 in the Parliament aimed at solving the problem of general re-registration of religious organizations and the abolition of the requirement of a notarized certificate of already registered statutes before submitting them to the state registrar. They also talked about measures aimed at protecting public morals and promoting the value of the family in Ukrainian society. All these questions will be discussed by the heads of denominations that will gather at the session of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations in early November.

According to the IRS, representatives of the Council of Churches supported the draft Law of Ukraine “On Preventing and Combating Domestic Violence” (Reg. No. 5294). Earlier, the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations urged parliamentarians to adopt bills No. 4952 and No. 5294 aimed at counteracting domestic violence without linking them to the ratification of the Istanbul Convention due to substantial remarks.
