Polen: Beautifully frescoed churches displayed in new video series
A new YouTube video series displays some of Poland’s most beautiful churches, in the northeastern region of Podlasie. “They are filled with amazing iconography… requiring reflection, a holistic view, and thoughtful contemplation,” writes Cerkiew.pl, the outlet that published the 6-part “Colorful Contemplation” series. The first video presents an overview of the project. The second video presents the Cathedral of the Transfiguration on Holy Mount Grabarka, a true spiritual center for the Polish Orthodox Church. Tens of thousands of believers leave crosses on the famous “Mountain of Crosses” there, and go on pilgrimage there for the feast of the Transfiguration every August.
The third video is dedicated to the Church of the Nativity of the Theotokos in Gródek, which was erected in the post-war years on the site where a 15th-century church once stood. The fourth video presents the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Hajnówka, known for its irregular shape and the undulating roof topped with conical domes. The fifth video displays the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in Michałowo, a real pearl among the Orthodox churches of Podlasie. The wooden building is more than 100 years old, and adorned with beautiful iconography from the 1950s. The final video is dedicated to the Gothic-Byzantine Annunciation Cathedral at Supraśl Monastery, which is an exact reproduction of the church from the 16th century. The church was consecrated last summer. (Quelle: www.orthochristian.com, 5. August 2022)
