Griechenland: Archbishop of Greece hospitalized with coronavirus

25. November 2020

Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens, the primate of the Orthodox Church of Greece, was recently admitted to the Evangelismos Hospital in Athens after testing positive for the coronavirus. He is currently presenting mild symptoms, reports Romfea. After Patriarch Irinej of Serbia and Archbishop Anastasios of Albania, Archbishop Ieronymos is the third Orthodox primate to test positive for COVID. He is being treated in the same hospital as Abp. Anastasios. Abp. Ieronymos tested negative for the virus when he was tested after the recent session of the Greek Holy Synod and before his meeting with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, but tested positive in a scheduled molecular examination on 16 November. The Archbishop spoke of how he now personally shares in the “agony, pain, and fear” of millions throughout the world, adding that, “with our faith in God, we will all overcome.” His Beatitude has received wishes for a speedy recovery from several government representatives.
